The sacrifice of nationalism

Piece from the Make Bacon Series was an exhibition project from 2010 presented at the San Francisco de Asís Convent as a supportive response that Lara offered from art to the victims of the seismic catastrophe that occurred in Haiti in January of that same year. The exhibition was arranged as a symbol of a great human collage, between sculptural lumps (or soft sculptures), abstractions and large-format installations. The aesthetics of the grotesque prevailed, although drawings appear, each piece refers to the tears of the flesh, death and pain. On canvas, Sotelo incorporated in a definitive way, collages of torn and superimposed fabrics, tied and stretched, creating very expressive material effects.

 

Pieza de la Serie Make bacon fue un proyecto de exposición del año 2010 presentado en el Convento San Francisco de Asís como una respuesta solidaria que desde el arte, Lara ofreció a las víctimas de la catástrofe sísmica ocurrida en Haití en enero de ese mismo año. La muestra estuvo dispuesta como símbolo de un gran collage humano, entre bultos escultóricos (o esculturas blandas), abstracciones e instalaciones de gran formato. Prevaleció la estética de lo grotesco, aunque aparecen dibujos, cada pieza remite a los desgarramientos de la carne, de la muerte y del dolor. Sobre el lienzo, Sotelo incorporó de manera definitoria, los collages de telas rasgadas y superpuestas, amarradas y estiradas creando efectos matéricos muy expresivos.
